Planning a long winter stay in Dubai

A long stay is different from a holiday. You will do laundry, cook some of your meals, take calls, and want to feel settled rather than like a tourist. A little planning up front makes the difference between a stay that feels like home and one that feels like a long hotel visit.
Many visitors choose the cooler months of the year for an extended stay in Dubai. Conditions vary from week to week, so check a current forecast closer to your dates rather than relying on a general rule.
1. Fix your dates, then keep a little slack
Decide your arrival and departure dates, and think about whether you might want to extend. If you might, ask the operator how an extension works and whether the home is free after your planned check-out. Popular homes can be taken for the dates after yours, so it is better to ask before you book than after.
2. Think about who is coming and when
Plans often include visitors: relatives coming for a week, friends for a weekend. Check the home’s guest limit and its house rules on visitors, and ask if you are unsure.
3. Pick the area for your daily routine
On a long stay you will use your neighbourhood every day. Some examples from our area pages:
- Jumeirah Beach Residence is described as right by the beach, with complimentary beach access and gym and pool use mentioned in our listing text.
- Dubai Marina is described as walking distance to Dubai Marina Mall and JBR Beach, with many restaurants.
- Downtown Dubai is described as within walking distance of Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa.
- Palm Jumeirah offers villas and apartments for weekly and monthly stays.
If you are travelling with children, see our guide to choosing an area for a family stay. If you will be working, see choosing an area for a work stay.
4. Decide how you will get around
Think about whether you will rely on taxis, public transport or a rental car. Our own area text recommends a car in some communities, so if you plan not to drive, choose a neighbourhood where you can walk to daily needs, and ask the team to confirm.
5. Ask about what is included
For a long stay, small items add up. Ask what is included in the stay price, how housekeeping by a Room Attendant works, and what the internet connection is like. Our guide to what is included in a furnished stay has a full checklist.
6. Get the total price for your whole stay
Ask for the total for your exact dates and what it covers. Compare homes on the total, not on a single nightly figure.
7. Plan arrival day
Confirm the check-in time and how you will receive access. If your flight lands early or late, tell the team in advance and ask what is possible.
8. Pack for living, not just visiting
Bring what you would want for a normal month: chargers, work equipment, medication you need and anything that makes a place feel familiar. Most of the household basics are in the home already, but check the listing for specifics.
A short timeline
- Several weeks ahead: decide dates and area, shortlist homes, ask questions.
- Before booking: confirm the total price, what is included and the terms.
- A few days before arrival: confirm the check-in time and access arrangements.
- On arrival: check the home against the listing and tell the team straight away if anything is missing.
