Best Dubai areas for a work stay

Best Dubai areas for a work stay

If you are in Dubai for work, the best neighbourhood is the one that makes your week easy. That usually means a short, predictable trip to your office or meetings, somewhere to eat and shop close to home, and a place to work comfortably when you are not out.

Start from your workplace, not from the postcard

Before you look at photos, write down where you need to be on a normal day. Then check the route at the times you will actually travel. Dubai traffic and metro timetables vary through the day, and we would rather you test a route yourself than rely on a general claim from us. Use a maps application for the travel time you will really face.

Areas worth a look

These descriptions come from our own area pages. They are a starting point for your shortlist, not a guarantee of any commute.

  • Business Bay is described as close to the Burj Khalifa and near a metro station. Our offices are in Business Bay, at Tamani Arts Offices.
  • Downtown Dubai is described as within walking distance of Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa.
  • Dubai Marina is described as walking distance to Dubai Marina Mall and JBR Beach, with a large selection of restaurants.
  • Greens is described as opposite Dubai Knowledge Village and Internet City, with a car rental advised.
  • Jumeirah Village Circle is described as suited to short- and long-term stays, with a rental car recommended.

Whichever area you lean towards, remember that a map distance is not a travel time. Try the route in a maps application at the hours you will actually travel before you commit to a month in one place.

Notice the pattern in the last two: in some communities our own area text recommends having a car. If you plan to rely on public transport, say so when you ask about a home.

What to check in a home you will work from

  • Internet. Ask about the connection and what speed is available. Do not assume; if you take video calls, ask.
  • A place to work. Look at the photos for a desk or table you could use for a full day, and a chair that suits it. Ask if the listing does not show one.
  • Quiet. Ask which way the home faces and whether the building has construction nearby.
  • Laundry and kitchen. Many of our listings show laundry facilities, an espresso machine, a kettle and cookware in the amenities list, which saves time on a long stay. Confirm for the home you like.
  • Support. Many listings show 24/7 guest support. Find out how it works if something stops working during a deadline week.
  • Flexibility. Work plans change. Ask how an extension would work before you book.

Each home is different, so always read the listing for what is included in that particular home.

Weekly or monthly?

If your project length is uncertain, a shorter booking with the option to extend gives you room to adjust. If your dates are firm, a monthly stay is simpler. Our guide to monthly stays without an annual lease lists the questions that matter for longer bookings.

A quick method

  • Write down your workplace address and your usual hours.
  • Shortlist two or three areas and test the route at the right times.
  • Choose homes with a workable desk and a confirmed internet connection.
  • Ask for the total price for your whole stay and what it includes.
  • Book, and keep the operator’s contact details handy.

When you are ready, browse all our stays or go straight to Business Bay, Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina.
